The Czech Science Foundations posted reports on our Center of Excellence project. As you may see, one finds it excellent, two others are brief indeed, one finds the project very good but unfocused, while the last one dealt with us without compromises. Looking at these texts, one gets a clear idea about the way the proposals were evaluated; it is also worth noticing that all the reports are local, no opinion coming from outside borders of this country is mentioned.
2013
- December 13
According to the list published today by the Czech Science Foundation our application for the Centre of Excellence was not successful. Being asked for referee reports, the Foundation president communicated that they will be published after being "properly anonymized". It will be certainly useful to see in which respect we have been found weaker than the successful competitors, but it will bot change the result.
As everybody knows, there is time for every purpose and fat years switch with lean years; those who are not willing to fight for their existence, have little chance. The main thing is to preserve the spirit of our community and good mutual communication in the quest for new interesting results.

We have been informed by this letter that our application to the Czech Science Foundation for support of the Doppler Institute next period was turned down on formal grounds. Readers, at least those able to read Czech, can appreciate the way in which the internationally competitive scientific projects are treated in this country. We can only say that we will not let die the project of two-decade history as a result of a bureaucratic ruling, the rationality of which can be easily challenged, and the Doppler Institute will keep functioning further with the means we will be able to find!
