In his famous "Treatise of electricity and magnetism"
J.C. Maxwell formulated and "proved" the following claim.
Any configuration on N fixed charges in the 3-dimensional space has at most
(N-1)^2 points of equilibrium. This claim is still unsettled even for three
charges in space.
